DNA Sample Collection in Cases of Sexual Assault
Introduction
The medical and diagnostic procedures following a reported rape are largely standardized throughout Germany. The responsible criminal investigation department takes the woman to a hospital or doctor with whom a contractual agreement exists for these examinations. It also commissions and finances the necessary examinations and evidence collection. It manages the process, thereby facilitating the procedure for both the women affected and the hospitals. Evidence collection kits are an important tool in this context.

Procedure for Securing Evidence
Every evidence collection kit should contain instructions on how to collect evidence.
A distinction must be made between the medical examination, which generally takes precedence over other evidence collection activities, and the collection of evidence by a police officer. There should be appropriate protocols and documentation forms for both processes.
