Description
The F3D is a mobile, glasses-based pupil measurement system for detecting drowsiness in drivers.
The same device can also be used to check whether a person’s ability to drive is impaired after intake of medication or drugs.
A video camera with infrared lighting integrated into the glasses observes and digitizes the pupil of the test subject. The position and diameter of the pupil are continuously determined. Spontaneous fluctuations in pupil diameter (pupillary unrest) are evaluated to objectively assess the sleepiness of a test subject. Using the F3D Cockpit software, the Pupillary Unrest Index (PUI®) is determined as a function of time and, derived from this, the overall mean value over the measurement period. The overall mean value is compared with standard values. In addition, the MRS® parameter – monotony resistance status – can be determined. Both values allow a reliable conclusion to be drawn about the degree of fatigue of a driver.
